Valerie was struck down by a motorist as she was taking her early morning 10 km walk as she had done so every day before going to work for the past twenty years. The driver who struck her ran a red light as Valerie was crossing the street at a marked crosswalk. Valerie suffered severe fractures to her legs, her pelvis, her clavicle and her arms.
