In August 2005, April was seriously injured in a head-on motor vehicle accident caused by a wrong-way driver on a 400-series highway. She sustained multiple orthopaedic injuries, including four broken limbs, broken ribs, a spinal injury, and lacerations to her liver and spleen. She also suffered a closed head injury that affected her memory. Following the crash, April spent four months in the hospital learning to walk again and breathe on her own.

When April returned home, she faced significant physical limitations. She had only recently begun walking again and did not have enough strength in her arms to hold her one-year-old son. Everyday life was made even more challenging by living in a two-story home while recovering from her injuries.

April explains that working with Roger Oatley and the team at Oatley Vigmond provided reassurance during a difficult period. She says arrangements for home care and childcare were already in place when she was discharged from the hospital, allowing her to focus on her physical and emotional recovery instead of managing those responsibilities herself. Reflecting on her experience, April encourages others recovering from a serious motor vehicle accident to remain positive and place their trust in a lawyer they have confidence in, describing that sense of security as invaluable during the recovery process.
