Cindy shares how her life changed after a motor vehicle accident caused by black ice. While driving her two youngest children to school, she lost control of her vehicle after hitting a patch of black ice and collided head-on with a school bus. The crash left her with severe injuries, and she spent 16 days in a coma. When she woke up, she struggled to understand what had happened and faced a long recovery. Doctors warned her that she might never walk again. She also experienced memory problems, difficulty with word recall, and challenges with chewing and swallowing.
As a single mother of three young children, Cindy says she had no idea how to navigate the legal process or access the care she needed. After meeting Troy Lehman and the team at Oatley Vigmond, she says they coordinated the support required for her recovery, including speech pathology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and recreational therapy. They also worked to ensure she received the insurance benefits she needed while investigating the collision and pursuing her legal claim.
Although Cindy continues to live with chronic pain, she says the rehabilitation team and resources put in place have given her the tools to adapt and regain her independence. Reflecting on her experience, she describes Oatley Vigmond as a team that treated her like family and helped her rebuild her life after a devastating motor vehicle collision.
