Nicole shares how a missed medical condition led to an acquired brain injury that permanently changed her life. As a teenager, she suffered a medical emergency in which her heart stopped. Her mother found her unresponsive and immediately began CPR while emergency help was called. Nicole later learned that an ECG performed when she was four years old had identified a problem, but the condition was never addressed.

As a result of the acquired brain injury, Nicole has limited feeling in her fingers and toes, significant memory loss, and relies on reminders throughout the day to complete everyday tasks such as taking medication and showering. She explains that she remembers very little from before her injury and compares the experience to having to learn life all over again. Her family believed something had been overlooked and sought legal advice after focusing first on Nicole’s recovery.

After meeting Adam Stewart and the team at Oatley Vigmond, Nicole and her family felt hopeful that her case would be understood. Nicole says the settlement helped her achieve greater independence by allowing her to secure her own home and providing long-term financial security. Looking back, she and her family describe Oatley Vigmond as a source of support throughout the legal process and credit the outcome with helping Nicole build an independent future despite the lasting effects of her acquired brain injury.
