$515,000 Settlement
An active, middle-aged couple attended a ski hill for a day of leisurely skiing. The couple was sitting together on a ski lift chair when it suddenly stopped. The chair abruptly jumped forward and began to swing wildly. It struck a support tower and became derailed. The couple plummeted to the ground, while still in the chair.
The wife suffered a displaced compound fracture to her right wrist and a fracture to her left fibula. She underwent numerous surgeries in an attempt to restore normal functioning in her right, dominant hand. Unfortunately, these surgeries were not successful. She suffered from restricted mobility, pain, and severe scarring. The husband also sustained a deep cut injury to his left elbow and soft tissue injuries to his back and neck. He was in constant pain.
We sued the ski club, the manufacturer of the ski lift, and various employees working the ski lift that day. The case settled prior to trial, for a total of $519,062.
