$1.2 Million Settlement
A 22 year old man fell out of the 2nd story door of a barn while intoxicated. Earlier that day, the barn owner approached the young man and his friends while they were drinking at a local bar and asked for help unloading a shipment of hay that was being delivered. When they arrived at the barn, the young man climbed to the 2nd story and started baling hay. He was intoxicated and the barn owner knew it.
The young man fell out of an unsecured exit and landed on his neck and head 20 feet below. He suffered a complete spinal cord injury at level C7 of his spine. He was rendered a complete quadriplegic.
We sued the owners of the barn, the owners of the bar where the young man was allegedly over-served, and the municipality for issuing permits for the barn when it failed to comply with relevant building codes. We settled this matter prior to trial and recovered over $1.2 M in damages for this young man.
