Collateral Damage: Helping the helpers cope with Traumatic Brain Injury

February 27, 2015 @ 7:45 am - 4:10 pm

Oatley Vigmond, as part of the PIA, is proud to be the Gold sponsor of the University of Toronto’s interdisciplinary trauma conference titled Collateral Damage: Helping the helpers cope with Traumatic Brain Injury.

The audience for this conference includes nurses, physicians, allied health professionals, and first responders (police, fire, paramedics) involved in trauma programs or emergency care as well as public health and ministry of health policy makers.

This year’s conference will focus on helping the helpers, specifically exploring the psychological components of trauma care through the lens of trauma and emergency care staff at various points in the trauma patients’ journey (i.e. first responders, trauma/emergency, acute care, rehab). Topics include Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), mental health and wellbeing among care providers, guidance and insight on sharing difficult/tragic news with families, understanding the front line workers role in violence and injury prevention and understanding patients post trauma recovery experience. The conference will not only explore ways of providing care that support families and patients that have sustained traumatic injuries but also explore ways of providing care to the trauma and emergency staff providing that care
