Rick Winson was seriously injured when he was thrown from his snowmobile while crossing Lake Simcoe. He landed with his back on the ice and suffered a fractured lumbar spine and spinal cord injury as a result. Rick suffered from paraplegia and required the use of a wheelchair as a result of his spinal cord injury.
Rick applied to his insurance company for accident benefits to pay for his lost wages, medical and rehabilitation services, as well as funds to pay for renovations to his house in order to make it wheelchair accessible. At first Rick thought he could handle things on his own because he was dealing with his own insurance company. However, Rick realized he needed to retain the help of a lawyer when his insurer had not yet paid to make his house wheelchair accessible, even though more than two years had passed since his injury.
“After a March 2001 snowmobile crash left me an incomplete paraplegic I thought I could handle the insurance company on my own. A year (and several adjusters) later, I realized I was getting run around by the insurer and sought legal counsel. A recommendation by the Canadian Paraplegic Association lead me to the offices of Oatley Vigmond and specifically, Robert Durante. Robert immediately made my wife and I feel comfortable that he would handle the situation and soon after retaining him began to get positive results from the insurer.
Robert and his associates are to be commended for their compassion, professionalism and diligence in resolving even the smallest issues with a very uncooperative insurance company. We are positive that if not for the efforts of Robert and the staff of Oatley Vigmond that my case would still be ongoing and the favourable out of court settlement we received would not have been possible.
I have, and will continue to recommend the firm of Oatley Vigmond to anyone who finds themselves in the unfortunate situation of needing legal counsel to defend their rights against an insurer. It was the best decision we made in a very challenging case.”
