Undisclosed Settlement
Our client was a young child who suffered a brain injury because his brain was deprived of oxygen during his birth. He was a twin. During labour it is crucial that the babies’ heart-rates be monitored. Abnormal heart rates can be a sign that a baby is in trouble and can warrant an emergency C-section. In this case, there were issues with the nurses’ monitoring of the heart rates. There was also an issue with respect to how quickly the doctor responded to the abnormal heart rates.
We sued both the doctors and the nurses and retained medical experts to carefully review the evidence. The case proceeded to trial. At the end of the first week of the trial we settled the case for a confidential sum in the millions. The settlement provides this family with the money they need to get our young client the care that he requires and to provide for his future.
