$4 Million Settlement
Our client was a teenager at the time he suffered a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down. He was a passenger in an automobile that was struck by a drunk driver. The drunk driver had been working on a construction job site and he and his co-workers drank beer at the end of the work day, in the employer’s work trailer.
We sued the drunk driver for causing the crash but we learned during the course of our investigation that the driver’s employer knew that the workers were drinking on the job site after work. We therefore also sued the employer for allowing the worker to get drunk and leave the job site while his ability to drive was impaired by alcohol. We settled the case shortly before trial for more than $4 million and the insurer for the employer paid the majority of the settlement.
