Tom was 53 years old when he was driving to work on February 4, 2004. The defendant crossed over the centre line and struck Tom’s vehicle head-on. Tom suffered severe crushing injuries and had both hips replaced. He broke his right arm, right leg and left foot. He endured several surgeries and had years of painful rehabilitation.
