Ryan was 21 years old when he was a passenger in a truck that rolled over, ejecting Ryan through the sunroof. Ryan suffered a complete spinal cord injury resulting in total paralysis from the chest down. At trial, Ryan’s damages were assessed in excess of $12.5 million – the largest assessment of damages in Canada for a spinal cord patient.
