$2 Million Awarded
Our client was a courageous young man who was a quadriplegic because of an earlier swimming accident. Due to his courage, intelligence, and perseverance he obtained a degree in math and physics after his spinal cord injury and was on the verge of earning his teaching credentials.
While going to a mall to purchase Christmas presents for his family our client was proceeding up a ramp in his wheel chair. His wheelchair toppled over backwards. Our client slammed down hard on the back of his head and suffered a brain injury that brought his hope of ever working for a living to an end. He tried to return to school to complete his education, but was unable to concentrate and learn new information.
An architect we retained discovered that the ramp was too steep and therefore in violation of the Ontario Building Code. We sued the mall. After a contested trial before a jury, we won a verdict for our client in excess of $2,000,000.
